RCBL Recap 7/19: Bucks Surge Late vs. Braves, Cardinals Walk Off Shockers, Reds Shut Down Bruins7/20/2023 By Dean Barker Seven late runs from the Clover Hill Bucks proved to be the difference in a 14-7 win over the Montezuma Braves. The win moved the Bucks to 16-6, while the loss dropped the Braves to 9-14. Steve Woerner (1-0) struck out eight in five innings to get the win. Lance Tate (4-2) gave up seven runs in five innings to take the loss. The score was 7-5 headed to the bottom of the seventh, but a grounder from Lucas Bauer drove in one, and Kevin Navedo hit a two run bomb to right center to cement the win. The Bucks added four more in the eighth, and withheld a two run rally from Montezuma in the ninth. These two teams will play again in Montezuma on Thursday, July 20 at 7:30 pm. Whit Scafidi’s eleventh inning walk off RBI single gave the Grottoes Cardinals their fourth win in a row, a 6-5 victory over the RCBL Shockers. With the win, the Cardinals improved their record to 15-9, while the Shockers fell to 16-8. Austin Nicely (1-0) struck out two in the eleventh to take the win in his first pitching appearance back with the Cardinals. Pearce Bucher (1-2) gave up the game winning single to take the loss. Down 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Dylan Nicely ripped a double to center to plate one, and Garrett Huffman’s grounder brought in the tying run. The two teams scored two runs each in the tenth, and Scafidi walked it off in the eleventh. The Cardinals will travel to the Broadway Bruins on Friday, July 21 at 7:30 pm. The Shockers will host the Clover Hill Bucks for their final home game on Friday, July 21 at 7:30 pm. Noah Cornwell had a two run double and a two run home run to lead the Bridgewater Reds past the Broadway Bruins 6-2. With the win, the Reds stayed tied with Clover Hill for first at 16-6, while the Bruins fell to 12-12. Joe Christopher (4-0) struck out seven in six innings to pick up the win. Brayden Collier (1-1) gave up five runs in five innings to take the loss. Jaylon Lee got the Bruins on the board first with a first inning home run, but Cornwell responded with a two run double in the bottom half, and a two run bomb in the fifth. The Reds will host the Stuarts Draft Diamondbacks on Thursday, July 20 at 7:30 pm. The Bruins will host the Grottoes Cardinals on Friday, July 21 at 7:30 pm.
