By Nolan Potts Broadway jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and a 3-1 lead after two innings, but Bridgewater scored two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three in the seventh to pull away and take Game 1 of this semifinal series, 7-3. Chris Huffman went the distance for the Reds, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, walking one, and striking out 13. This year’s MVP and Pitcher of the Year threw 128 pitches. Brett Tharp had two hits, scored two runs, and drove in a run for Bridgewater, while Grey Sherfey went 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI and Corbin Lucas went 1-3 with an RBI. Jordan Yankey, Derek Shifflett, and Huffman all also had one hit each. For Broadway, their five hits came from Carl Keenan, Noah Leonard, Bryce Turner, Danny Demoss, and Conner Michael. Micah Canterbury drove in a run, while Keenan, Demoss, and Brody Bower all scored a run. Canterbury went the first six innings, allowing eight hits, four runs (two earned) and striking out four. The Bruins got a strong 1.1 innings of relief from Shea Kushner, who struck out three of the four batters that he faced. Game 2 is Saturday night at Broadway HS at 6:30 PM
