Ross French and Jacob Matheney have been named the Journeys Crossing Players of the Week for the week of June 24-30.
French had a strong week at the plate for the Clover Hill Bucks, registering a hit in four games this week. He started the week off with a 4-for-5 performance against New Market on Tuesday, driving in two runs and scoring twice himself.
On June 29 he went 2-for-4 against Broadway as Clover Hill won 8-3 on the road. French drove in one run and scored two in the Bucks’ victory. He capped off the week with a 1-for-3 night against Broadway on Sunday, hitting a double and driving in a run.
The Emory and Henry grad is now batting .333 on the year with 6 RBIs for the first-place Bucks. Clover Hill will be back in action tonight when they travel to Grottoes to face the Cardinals. That game will be broadcast on ESPN 106.9 and 1360 WHBG.
Matheney pitched in two games for the Stuarts Draft Diamondbacks this week, earning a win in both appearances. His week started with a seven-inning outing against Montezuma on Tuesday. Matheney allowed just one unearned run on three hits while striking out six batters.
He followed that performance up with a six-inning appearance against Grottoes on Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out seven batters. Matheney is 3-1 on the season for the Dbacks with 27 strikeouts and a 3.55 ERA. The Diamondbacks will be back in action tonight when they host Bridgewater at the Diamond Club for a 7:30 p.m. first pitch.
